Deacon David Clegg:
I will be teaching a bible study this fall on the Gospel of John, the Beloved Disciple. John has been regarded as the “spiritual gospel” in comparison with the other Gospels. We will be exploring not only the high Christology of John, but also the social and historical milieu that existed at the time the Gospel was written. What were the political realities facing Jews and Jewish Christians at the time the Gospel was written? What does the Gospel say about the ultimate separation between the Church and synagogue? The class will cover areas as biblical interpretation and the meaning of discipleship as reflected in the Gospel. I am looking for a few brave Christians who want to delve deeper into the Gospel of John. Participants will be expected to have read the Gospel of John. The coursework will include selective readings. There will be six one-hour a week classes starting at the end of September. The dates and time of the class will be selected by those who wish to participate. If you are interested in participating in this bible study, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
